Portland Man Finds $50,000 Powerball Prize in a Pile of TicketsMore than three months have passed since the December 5 Powerball® drawing was held.  Unbeknownst to Robert Unikewicz of Portland, one of the many people who play Powerball, but infrequently check their tickets, he was holding on to a $50,000 prize winner.

The winning Powerball numbers on December 5, 2015 were 13 - 27 - 33 - 47 - 68. The Powerball number was 13.

In total, 11,655 winning Powerball tickets were sold statewide for that date, including one “Match 5” $1,000,000 prize winning ticket sold in Fairfield County that still remains unclaimed.

Unikewicz told CT Lottery officials that his winning Powerball ticket was sitting in a small pile of tickets on his desk. “I don’t check my tickets very often. Every once in a while, when I have the chance, I go through them.” When he finally got around to visiting the Lottery’s website, Unikewicz was shocked to discover one of his “Quick Pick” tickets matched four numbers plus the Powerball number for a whopping $50,000 prize. “I was really surprised. I hardly ever win anything,” Unikewicz said. “Now, I can get caught up on some bills, give some money to my two daughters, take a vacation, and put some money away.”

Unikewicz’s winning Powerball ticket was purchased at Stop & Shop #606 at 195-197 West Street in Cromwell.

Since all draw game tickets expire 180 calendar days from the draw date, players are encouraged to check their tickets carefully—sooner rather than later. Tickets can be checked online at ctlottery.org, by scanning in a lottery Ticket Checker, by using the official CT Lottery Mobile App, or at any lottery retailer location.

The winner of the $1,000,000 Powerball prize for December 5 has only until Thursday, June 2, 2016 to claim their top prize before their ticket expires. Three other Powerball “Match 5” prizes also remain unclaimed at this time:

• 01/09/2016 - Powerball, 16-19-32-34-57, PB 13, worth $2,000,000; sold in Hartford County
• 01/09/2016 - Powerball, 16-19-32-34-57, PB 13, worth $1,000,000; sold in Fairfield County
• 02/20/2016 - Powerball, 11-12-15-16-54, PB 25, worth $1,000,000; sold in Tolland County
