Avon Man Becomes 14th “Lucky for Life” Winner in CT to Claim “$25,000 a Year for Life” 2nd Prize
For the past few weeks, John Devlin of Avon was completely unaware that the August 7th Lucky for Life
draw game ticket sitting on his kitchen counter would ultimately change his life forever. When Devlin finally got around to scanning his ticket in a Ticket Checker last Sunday, he received a most unexpected message. His Lucky for Life ticket contained a winning combination for the game’s most awesome second prize—$25,000 a year for life.
“Then I gave the ticket to the clerk to scan. With a big smile, she handed me back a [validation] ticket that showed the second prize was $25,000 a year for life and said, ‘Congratulations.’ I was so stunned, I almost walked away without the $12 prize I won on another ticket,” said Devlin with a laugh.
The winning Lucky for Life numbers on August 7, 2014 were 1-10-23-24-41 with the Lucky Ball number, 13. Devlin’s “Quick Pick” ticket missed the Lucky Ball number, but his five number match handsomely rewarded him with the game’s second highest “For Life” prize.
After consulting with his financial advisor, Devlin opted to collect his $25,000 a year for life second prize in a one-time cash lump-sum payment of $390,000 (value before taxes). “I’ll mostly invest a large portion of this for our future retirement,” said Devlin. “My car is really pretty old, though, so maybe I’ll get a new car, too.”
Devlin’s Lucky for Life second prize match is among a total of 37 lifetime wins in New England, including 14 wins in Connecticut alone, in nearly a year’s time.
Devlin purchased his winning Lucky for Life ticket at Big Y World Class Market #53 located at 255 W. Main Street in Avon. Big Y will receive a $2,500 bonus check from the CT Lottery for selling the ticket.
