New Haven Resident Claims $20,000 “Super Draw” Prize
It’s nearly a week now since the “New Year’s $1,000,000 Super Draw” drawing was held on January 1, and the CT Lottery is still looking for the single ticket holder with the winning number 198104. While the Lottery does not know the identity of the $1,000,000 winner, several others have stepped forward with a winning number match for the game’s $20,000 second prize. Last night, during a bout of restless sleep, Nicholas Ortiz, of New Haven happily discovered that he was one of them.
“I couldn’t sleep so I got up and went on the computer to the lottery’s website,” Ortiz told lottery officials. “I had bought two Super Draw tickets a couple days before the drawing, but hadn’t checked them yet. The second ticket with the number 187795 on it was the $20,000 winner.”
Of the ten $20,000 second prize ticket numbers 109799, 167072, 187795, 204223, 220822, 247450, 267814, 294276, 340474, and 344121, seven prizes, including Ortiz’s, have been claimed by Jacob Bohr, Jr., Storrs Mansfield; Joanna Breault, East Hartford; Glenn Burkhart, New Hartford; Leonard Dziedzic, Torrington; Pamela Favreau, Willington; and Cheryl Marc Aurele, Thomaston.
Today, Ortiz arrived at Lottery headquarters in Rocky Hill to enthusiastically accept his $20,000 prize. “The first thing I’m going to do is help my mom pay off all the bills. Maybe after that, I can get a car,” said Ortiz.
Ortiz purchased his winning Super Draw ticket at EZ Mail and More, located at 920 Foxon Road in East Haven.
