26th Wedding Anniversary is Happily Celebrated with $250,000 Lottery Prize WinLast Thursday, Laurence “Larry” Carlson, Jr. of Lebanon was on a mission to buy flowers for his wife, Sharon, in celebration of their 26th wedding anniversary. While shopping, Carlson tried to buy a CT Lottery “$250,000 Spectacular” instant ticket from the store’s courtesy desk, but it was closed. So, instead, Carlson bought the ticket from a nearby instant ticket vending machine—a choice that happily resulted in winning the game’s $250,000 top prize.
“The funny thing is, Sharon didn’t even want me to buy flowers,” Carlson told Lottery officials with a mischievous laugh. “It’s a good thing I did…and even more so, that the courtesy desk was closed. Otherwise, I never would have bought the winning ticket from the vending machine!”
When the Carlsons accepted their prize $170,750 (value after taxes) at Lottery headquarters in Rocky Hill they were still reeling in disbelief over their unexpected windfall and good fortune.
“It’s unbelievable…it’s crazy…this all feels like a dream,” said Carlson to Lottery officials. “We’re looking forward to being able to pay off the mortgage, pay some bills and to put some money in the bank. For fun, though, we’d like to maybe take a cruise.”
For selling Carlson his prize winning ticket, Stop & Shop #682, located at 220 Route 12 in Groton, will receive a $2,500 bonus check from the CT Lottery.
Other $250,000 Spectacular top prize winners include David George Rogers of Middlefield and Arthur Daniel of New London.
