Fishing Buddies Snag $100,000 Cash5 Lottery Prize
Michael Adamowicz and Francis Sabattella, Jr. of Southington have been fishing buddies for more than 25 years. Nearly a year ago, the two friends picked some “birthday” numbers and began playing the CT Lottery’s “Cash5
” draw game. The result was no tall fishing tale—the five numbers printed on their Cash5 ticket for April 6 were a perfect match with the winning numbers drawn and they reeled in the game’s $100,000 top prize.
The Cash5 numbers drawn on April 6 were 7 - 16 - 20 - 25 - 33. A total of 4,030 winning tickets were sold statewide for that drawing. Prize values ranged from $2 to $100,000 each.
Adamowicz discovered their unexpected windfall while watching the Cash5 drawing live on TV (FoxCT) Friday night. “I called Francis and woke him up to tell him that we won; he didn’t believe me at first, though, that’s for sure,” said Adamowicz with a laugh.
Adamowicz and Sabattella arrived at Lottery headquarters in Rocky Hill early Monday morning each to collect a check for $34,150 (prize value after taxes). Both men agreed they would put the prize money right in the bank, “But use a little bit for fun,” Adamowicz said.
Adamowicz and Sabattella’s winning Cash5 ticket was purchased at Royal Plus Food Mart, located 212 Main Street in Southington. Royal Plus Food Mart will receive $1,000 from the CT Lottery for selling the ticket.
