Fairfield Nanny “Doubles” Her Fun and Wins $25,000 PrizeBefore meeting her father for lunch last week, 19-year old nanny, Teri Torres of Fairfield, stopped to get a soda and purchased a CT Lottery “Red Hot 5s Doubler” instant game ticket. “I had $5 left in change. I saw that the ticket was new, so I bought it,” Torres said.
Returning to her car, Torres scratched her ticket and revealed two “X” multiplier symbols. The “5X” symbol multiplied her $1,000 prize by five times; the next, a “2X” symbol, doubled the corresponding $10,000 prize, making her total prize an incredible $25,000. “When I saw I won, I stopped breathing. I was shaking,” Torres told lottery officials, her smile aglow with joy. “I had no number matches, but I still won $25,000. It’s amazing.”
Later, when Torres showed her father, Eric, her winning Red Hot 5s Doubler ticket, his reaction was enthusiastic. “I freaked,” Eric Torres told Lottery officials with a laugh. “She’s always lucky.”
Sales began for the CT Lottery Red Hot 5s Doubler on May 23, introducing players to a unique new game feature—a two-sided ticket. There are 10 chances to win on the front of the ticket, and 5 more chances to win on the back. The top prize is $50,000.
Torres and her dad arrived at CT Lottery in Rocky Hill on this beautiful, sun-filled day to accept her prize check for $17,126 (value after taxes). “I’m going to put this money right in the bank,” said Torres brightly.
Torres purchased her $25,000 prize winning Red Hot 5s Doubler ticket at Country Liquors, located at 140 West Street in Bolton. Country Liquors will receive $250 from the CT Lottery for doing so.
