$10,000 Lottery Prize is a Real “Heart-Pounder” for Ellington WinnerWhen the day’s weather forecast predicted hot weather, it wasn’t long before Bob Parlante, an oil burner technician who lives in Ellington, answered the call of thirst with a bottle of water purchased at Tolland Xtra Mart, located at 153 Hartford Road, Route 30, in Tolland. He also figured, “what the heck,” and also purchased a CT Lottery “10X Cash 4th Edition” instant ticket.
Before Parlante left the store, he scratched the ticket and revealed several “X” multiplier symbols next to a corresponding prize amount. “My heart was pounding like you wouldn’t believe. I couldn’t believe it was me that was winning so much,” Parlante said. When he totaled up his prizes, much to Parlante’s complete amazement, he had just won the game’s $10,000 top prize. “I let out the biggest yell, and gave the clerk a nice tip!” Parlante told Lottery officials with a chuckle.
Parlante, 60, immediately called his daughter to share his thrilling news. “She was even more excited than I was…she cried,” said Parlante.
Parlante traveled to CT Lottery headquarters in Rocky Hill to collect his prize check for $6,853 (value after taxes). “This is going to catch me right up. I’m going to pay off my bills and get my boat into the slip this year. I haven’t had it in the water for two years. Tonight, I’m taking my family out to dinner along the shoreline to celebrate,” Parlante said.
For selling Parlante his $10,000 top prize winning ticket, Tolland Xtra Mart will receive a $100 bonus check from the CT Lottery.
