Old Greenwich Resident Wins Top Prize in "Diamonds and Sevens"Old Greenwich resident Billy Boles recent stop for a cup of coffee at the Mini Market on East Putnam Avenue (Old Greenwich) delivered a cup of caffeine and an unexpected $200,000 CT Lottery prize win for the residential construction project manager.
Buying and scratching a $20 "Diamonds and Sevens" CT Lottery instant ticket from the retailer, Boles enjoyed an added perk with the discovery that the ticket he'd just bought contained three "7's" — the lucky combination needed to win one of the game's top prizes of an incredible $200,000.
Boles shared the news of his good fortune with his wife, Sandra, who didn’t believe at first that Billy's tale of good luck was real. "I showed her the ticket. She saw the three 7's in a row…and then the $200,000 prize," Boles told lottery officials. "She couldn’t believe it." Realizing the win was valid, she joined her husband for the trip to CT Lottery headquarters in Rocky Hill, where Boles received a prize check for $137,006 (prize value after taxes).
When asked about plans for the prize money, Boles response was quick, noting that the couples' two daughters had just graduated college. "We'll be paying off their college loans."
For selling Boles his winning Diamonds and Sevens ticket, Mini Mart will receive a $2,000 bonus from the CT Lottery.
