Portland Man Claims “Gold” on $30,000 Lottery PrizeAnthony Lombardo of Portland was all cheers when he claimed his $30,000 prize on a winning “
Diamonds and Gold” ticket. “I don’t believe this,” Lombardo told Lottery officials with a chuckle.
Lombardo had seen a friend playing Diamonds and Gold and looked to try his own luck. “I gave them [tickets] to my mom and told her ‘Let me know if I win,’” Lombardo said as he headed off for a workout.
A frequent marathon competitor, Lombardo rides his bike every day to stay in shape. However, it was in the middle of his workout routine when Lombardo received a very special phone call. “My phone rang – it was my mom and she said very calmly ‘I think you won a lot of money here.’” Ecstatic, Lombardo turned his bike around and headed home to give his mom a big hug.
Accompanied by his son, Lombardo happily told Lottery officials his plan for the winnings. “I plan on buying a sit down tractor for my mom and we’re going to Lambeau field [for a Green Bay Packers game]—But first, I’m taking my son out to lunch.”
For selling the winning ticket, Moon Mart located on 233 Main Street in Portland will receive a $300 check from the CT Lottery.
