Like Father, Like Son—Each Win “$100,000 Cashword” Top Prize Just Four Months Apart
Bristol residents Nicholas “Nick” Urso, 65, and his son Ben Urso
, 35, made CT Lottery history today as the only father-son duo to each win a $100,000 top prize in the same game - - $100,000 Cashword
- - just four months apart.
“I can’t tell you what [Ben] said when I told him I won, but it was colorful,” Nick told Lottery officials with a hearty laugh. “We both like playing the Lottery’s Cashword games. Most of the time we buy our tickets at the same place. This time I stopped at a different store while on my way to the golf course to get a pack of cigarettes along with two [$100,000 Cashword 7] tickets. One of them turned out to be a $100,000 winner.”
$100,000 Cashword, a hugely popular crossword-puzzle style of game, is an “extended play” instant game. The $10 ticket takes more time to play than a standard ticket, and the prizes that can be won are built upon how many matches are made as the play is completed. The $100,000 top prize is won by uncovering six complete “RED” words.
Nick’s top prize winning ticket was purchased at Stafford News & Variety, located at 928 Stafford Avenue in Bristol. For selling the ticket, Stafford News will receive a $1,000 check from the CT Lottery.
