Who Let The Dogs Out? Bethel's $10,000 Powerball Prize Winner!
On the night of the October 18th Powerball drawing, a touch of superstition kept Tracy Gibbs’ husband away from the computer to check the winning numbers. “Normally, I buy the ticket and my husband checks the numbers after the drawing,” Gibbs told Lottery officials. “This time he bought the ticket, so he was afraid to jinx it. He wanted me to check the numbers.”
The next morning, Gibbs poured herself a cup of coffee and took the dogs out. Standing on the porch watching the dogs, Gibbs remembered that she hadn’t checked the winning numbers yet. Phone in hand, she logged onto the lottery’s website and quickly discovered she was a $10,000 Powerball winner.
“When I saw we matched four numbers and the Powerball [number] I thought I was hallucinating,” Gibbs said laughing. “I woke my husband up and showed him my phone and the ticket, just to make sure I was right.”
The winning Powerball
numbers on October 18, 2014 were 20 - 26 - 27 - 36 - 54, the Powerball number was 19. Gibbs’ “Quick Pick” ticket matched four of the winning numbers, plus the Powerball number. In total, 8,361 winning Powerball tickets were sold statewide for that date with prizes ranging from $4 to $10,000.
“We really needed this,” said Gibbs as she accepted her $10,000 (before taxes) prize check. “We’ll put this towards a new car. One of ours is out of commission.”
Gibbs, a resident of Bethel, purchased her winning ticket at Food Bag #517, located at 77 Greenwood Avenue in Bethel.
