Canton Resident “Flying High” After Winning $10,000 Lottery Prize
As a business travel counselor for American Express, Kathy Perkosz of Canton is accustomed to preparing flight, hotel and other trip arrangements for a variety of her corporate clients. Recently, however, Perkosz discovered that she would soon be making flight arrangements for herself, after winning a $10,000 top prize playing the CT Lottery’s “10X Cash 4th Edition” instant game ticket.
“I don’t normally buy the $10 tickets, but if I do, I buy them with my mom and we play the ticket together,” Perkosz told lottery officials. This time, Perkosz purchased the ticket on her own after she finished grocery shopping at Geissler’s Supermarket, located on 40 Tunix Avenue in Bloomfield. Before she left the store, she scratched the ticket and revealed a “5X” symbol. As a result, Perkosz’s $2,000 prize was automatically multiplied by 5 for a total prize of $10,000.
“When I scratched the first row on the ticket and saw I won $10,000, I just quietly put the ticket away, and drove straight home to show my mother,” said Perkosz with a laugh. “My mom was cheering for me; she was so excited.”
Perkosz arrived at CT Lottery headquarters in Rocky Hill recently to accept her prize check for $6,853 (value after taxes). “I’m giving half of this to my mom. With my half I’ll pay some bills, and put some aside for something fun…like a summer vacation in Florida.”
For selling Perkosz her winning ticket, Geissler’s Supermarket will receive a $100 bonus check from the CT Lottery.
