Matching "Pair of Apples" Is Worth $100,000 WinIt was the last rush before the end of the day--the day before Thanksgiving, at CT Lottery headquarters in Rocky Hill when Himanshu Patel of Farmington arrived with a lottery ticket in his hand, a big smile on his face, and a story that was "easy as pie" to tell. It was a simple matter of Patel scratching away the latex from his "$100,000 Casino" instant ticket revealing a pair of "Apples" worth $100,000, the game's top prize. "I am truly at a loss for words," said Patel to lottery officials.
After running some family errands recently, Patel explained how he eventually stopped at his favorite, local convenience store "on a whim" to buy some lottery tickets, including the $10 instant game, $100,000 Casino. "When I first scratched the ticket, I thought it was a $1,000 winner. Scanning his ticket in a lottery Ticket Checker," Patel was in for the surprise of his life…one that included a couple more zeros. Instead of $1,000, Patel's ticket was worth an incredible $100,000.
"I went home and told my wife, "This winning is a blessing,'" said Patel while smiling from ear to ear. "She was elated when I told her…her smile…was priceless."
After sharing his story, Patel, who is in the health care industry, happily accepted his check from lottery officials for $68,503 (prize value after taxes).
"My next stop from here is to the bank to make a deposit," said Patel. "This money will go towards my children's college education."
Sam's Food Store, located on New Britain Avenue in West Hartford sold Patel his top prize winning ticket, and will receive a $1,000 bonus for doing so.
