Another Southbury Resident Claims a Multi-Million Dollar Prize Win!Joining Southbury’s growing list of multi-million dollar prize winners, Gerald Rutledge stepped forward on Monday to claim Connecticut’s first $2,000,000 Mega Millions prize won with a winning ticket for the January 26th drawing.
The winning Mega Millions numbers drawn on January 26 were 14-27-39-50-69 and Mega Ball 2. The Megaplier was 2.
Of the 9,473 winning Mega Millions tickets sold statewide for that date, Rutledge’s “Quick Pick” ticket was the only one sold in Connecticut that matched the first five numbers drawn. Because Rutledge smartly added the Megaplier® feature to his Mega Millions ticket for an extra $1 at the time of purchase, his $1,000,000 prize was automatically multiplied by two for a total win of $2,000,000.
Rutledge purchased his winning ticket at J&R Newtown Road Business Service, also known as the Exit 8 Shell Station at 101 Newtown Road in Danbury. “This is the biggest prize winning lottery ticket that we’ve ever sold,” Jarnail Dhaliwal, the owner of J&R told Lottery officials. “We are very happy for the winner and wish him good luck.” For selling the winning ticket, J&R will receive a $2,500 check from the CT Lottery.
In the past, three other Southbury residents were also lucky enough to claim a multi-million dollar lottery prize—each were Lotto® jackpot winners:
• James Owen, $4.8 million Lotto jackpot, Oct. 1, 2013
• Arthur Hlywa, Jr., $3.6 million Lotto jackpot, Feb. 25, 2011
• Simons Family Partnership, $6.8 million Lotto jackpot, April 18, 2002
