Groton Man Wins CT’s First $1,000,000 Powerball Prize of the New YearWhile thousands of lottery players throughout the state will have a chance to win Saturday’s ginormous $675 million Powerball jackpot, Romel Llivizaca of Groton is already a million steps ahead of the game as Connecticut’s first $1,000,000 Powerball winner of the New Year!
This past Tuesday, Llivizaca quietly presented his winning Powerball “Quick Pick” ticket for the January 2, 2016 drawing at Lottery headquarters in Rocky Hill and claimed his $1,000,000 prize. The first five numbers on Llivizaca’s Powerball ticket –– 5-6-15-29-42 –– were a perfect match, but he missed the Powerball number, 10. In total, 31,051 winning Powerball tickets were sold statewide for that date, with prizes ranging from $4 to $1,000,000.
For selling the winning ticket, Henny Penny #57 at 273 Meriden Waterbury Turnpike in Southington will receive a $2,500 check from the CT Lottery.
