Waitress Claims “$7,500 a Month for Life” Top Lottery Prize for $1,500,000What a difference a day makes. The day before yesterday, Jennifer Fortier of New Haven was unhappily employed as a waitress at a local diner. Today Fortier is $1,500,000 richer and joyfully “retired” after purchasing a top prize winning “$7,500 a Month for Life” scratch game ticket for $5 from a Hartford lottery retailer.
“I had a number ‘2’ match and below it, it said ‘WIN FOR LIFE.’ I had a heart attack. I couldn’t believe it,” Fortier told Lottery officials with a laugh. “Then I scanned it in a ticket checker. It said, ‘Congratulations you won $7,500 a month for life!’ I put the winning ticket inside my shirt and left the store without a word. I even slept with it!”
“Win up to $7,500 a Month for Life” top prizes are paid as $7,500 a month for life, with a guaranteed minimum total payout of $1,800,000, or as a one-time gross cash option payment of $1,500,000. After consulting with a financial advisor, Fortier selected the $1,500,000 cash option; and received a prize check from Lottery officials for $1,024,501 (value after taxes) with her father, Norm, cheerfully standing by her side.
“This will change my life,” said Fortier. “It couldn’t have happened at a better time.”
Vijay “Alex” Patel, owner of Hartford Newsstand at 901 Main Street in Hartford, was also notably excited about Fortier’s good fortune. Letting out several “hoots and hollers” upon learning of Fortier’s unexpected windfall—Patel was the lucky retailer to sell the “Win up to $7,500 a Month for Life” top prize winning ticket and will receive an $18,000 bonus check from the CT Lottery. “I am very happy for her. I hope she lives a long, long life. Good luck to her!” Patel said.
The winning names, stories and photos on this website are just a small number of the thousands who claim prizes. The fact is, people win every day with the CT Lottery! Below is a list of recently claimed prizes of $10,000 or more. Please Note: When a winning scratch ticket is validated through a Lottery Retailer's terminal, the remaining number of unclaimed prizes for that prize level is automatically updated reflecting one less prize. Until the individual or group presents their winning ticket for claim at CT Lottery Headquarters, the identity of a winner is unknown.
