Good Karma Pays Off—Tolland Resident Wins $25,000 PrizeAs most would agree, it feels pretty good to do something nice for another person.  For Marie Schnakenberg of Tolland, her recent “good deed” paid off in a big way—with a $25,000 lottery prize win.

On her way home from work, Marie stopped at a local grocery store to pick up some food for dinner.  She also bought a “$250,000 Cashword” instant game ticket for her husband, Tom.  “It was a good karma ticket,” Schnakenberg explained.  “Earlier in the day, I had bought a ‘$250,000 Cashword’ ticket for myself.  I knew if I came home without one for my husband to play, he would have been disappointed.”

Marie’s initial “Cashword” ticket wasn’t a winning one, but Tom’s ticket was another story—he had nine complete words for the game’s $25,000 second prize.  “We went to a local convenience store just to make sure it was real.  We were so excited; we were jumping around in the store in our PJ’s,” said Schnakenberg laughing.

Due to work obligations, Tom couldn’t make it to Lottery headquarters in Rocky Hill to claim his prize, so Marie accepted the $17,081 prize check (after taxes) on his behalf.  “It’s just such a nice gift.  We’re going to do some good things with it.  It really comes at a good time.”

Schnakenberg purchased the $25,000 prize winning ticket at Stop & Shop #613, located at 10 Pitkin Road in Vernon.  The store will receive a $250 check from the CT Lottery for selling the ticket.
