Lucky “Friday the 13th” $1,000,000 Mega Millions Prize is Claimed at CT Lottery HeadquartersAlthough superstition says that Friday the 13th is unlucky, Laurie Dillon of Weston might say otherwise.  Dillon’s choice to purchase a Mega Millions® “Quick Pick” ticket for the December 13 drawing proved very lucky—she was the single $1,000,000 prize winning ticket holder in Connecticut on that date for the game’s second prize.

The winning Mega Millions numbers drawn on December 13 were 19 - 24 - 26 - 27 - 70.  Dillon’s Mega Millions ticket matched the first five numbers, but missed the Mega Ball number, 12.  In total, 146,261 winning Mega Millions tickets were sold statewide, with prizes ranging from $1 to $1,000,000.

Dillon claimed her $1,000,000 prize at Lottery headquarters in Rocky Hill yesterday, accepting a check for $683,000, the value after taxes.

Furkan “Frank” Kudia, owner of Weston Hardware and Housewares located on 190 Weston Road in Weston, is also feeling pretty lucky.  A lottery retailer since July 2009, his store will receive a $2,500 bonus check from the CT Lottery for selling Dillon her winning $1,000,000 Mega Millions ticket.

“I’m just so happy that somebody who lives locally won,” Kudia said.  “Hopefully, we can be a lucky store for other lottery players, too.”
