Masonry Worker Plans to Build New Life with $1,000,000 Powerball® PrizeThe last couple of years have been tough ones for masonry worker Christopher Colwick of New Britain. Two years ago, Colwick was laid off from his job and his family has been struggling to make ends meet ever since. Today, however, Colwick’s life took a dramatic and positive turn for the better—he was standing in the lobby of CT Lottery headquarters in Rocky Hill with a $1,000,000
Powerball® winning ticket in his hand for last night’s drawing.
The winning Powerball numbers drawn on December 19 were 5 - 8 - 20 - 23 - 30. Colwick was one of two ticket holders in CT who matched the first five numbers, but missed the Powerball number, 3. In total, 7,939 winning Powerball tickets were sold statewide for that date, with prizes ranging from $4 to $1,000,000.
“I look every morning at the winning numbers online. Today, I was in total disbelief. I had five numbers—family birthday numbers that I’ve been playing since my daughters were born,” Colwick told Lottery officials. “I ran up the stairs to wake up my wife to tell her, but when I got there, I couldn’t even speak. I’m still in shock.”
The timing of Colwick’s monumental win couldn’t have come at a better time. “I’m not going to change, but this will make things a lot easier, that’s for sure.” Colwick intends to meet with a financial advisor to help make plans for the future, which include buying a house and setting up college funds for his children.
For selling Colwick his $1,000,000 Powerball winning ticket, Joe’s Package Store, located at 656 Arch Street in New Britain, will receive a $2,000 bonus from the CT Lottery.
