West Hartford Man Claims Year’s First “Lucky-4-Life” $2,000 a Week for Life Top Prize
Marshall Dorfman of West Hartford almost didn’t buy a ticket for the “Lucky-4-Life” drawing on January 19. The weather forecast predicted heavy snow, and the self-employed landscaper, who snow plows in the off-season, needed to get ready for a night of work. Fortunately, Dorfman changed his mind after hooking up his plow, and bought a Lucky-4-Life ticket, which contained numbers from family birthdays and his wedding anniversary. That ticket turned out to be the single top prize winning ticket sold for the evening, and was worth $2,000 a week for LIFE. As Connecticut’s first Lucky-4-Life millionaire of the New Year, Dorfman is guaranteed to receive prize money every week for the rest of his life.
The January 19, 2012 Lucky-4-Life winning numbers were 3 - 14 - 21 – 22 and the Lucky Ball was 14. In addition to Dorfman’s prize, there were a total of 7,204 other winning tickets sold for the game on that date, with prizes ranging from $5 up to $10,000 in value. Dorfman is the seventh Lucky-4-Life top prize winner since the game began in 2009.
“The morning after the drawing, I went to the lottery website and found out that we won. I couldn’t believe it,” Dorfman told Lottery officials. “It’s an awesome feeling. It’s definitely going to help out with bills and the kids. It couldn’t have come at a better time.”
Lucky-4-Life is a unique lottery game because its top prize value is based on the longevity of the winner. The minimum guaranteed amount a top prize winner could receive is $2,080,000 ($2,000 a week for 20 years), but, winners who live longer than that will receive prize payments each week for the remainder of their natural life.
Dorfman purchased his winning ticket at Sam’s Food Store located on New Britain Avenue in West Hartford. For selling the ticket, Sam’s Food Store will receive a $20,000 selling bonus from the CT Lottery.
