Special "Occasion" Merits $50,000 Lottery Prize for Stamford Winner
After many years of marriage, sometimes it can be a challenge to find new ways to celebrate a special occasion. Fortunately, Maria Saumell of Stamford will have no such problem. Thanks to the purchase of a CT Lottery “Super Cashword 14” instant ticket the day before her 40th wedding anniversary, Maria and her husband, Raymond, have plenty to celebrate. “I got the word ‘OCCASION’ for my 10th and final word match and won $50,000. I’m sure I checked the ticket at least twenty-five times,” Maria told Lottery officials.
Like many other “Cashword” fans, Maria, a Stamford Hospital employee, enjoys the extended play style of the game. “I like that it takes time to play,” said Maria, “It’s relaxing.”
The Saumell’s arrived at CT Lottery headquarters in Rocky Hill yesterday to accept her prize check for $34,151 (value after taxes). “We already had plans to go to Italy next year, but now, this will pay for it,” said Maria.
For selling Saumell her $50,000 top prize winning ticket, Belltown Superette, located at 29 Belltown Road in Stamford, will receive a $500 bonus check from the CT Lottery.
Previous top prize winners in the game include Israel Rodriguez, Bridgeport; Megan Keefe, Enfield; Jeffrey Poulin, Southbridge, MA; Elie Jean Guillaume, North Haven, Aaron Toe, Hartford; Daniel Mangado, Ansonia and Marcelino Thillet, New Britain.
