Bridgeport Resident Claims $2,000,000 Powerball with Power Play Prize for June 14 Draw
June 17, 2014 -- Lawrence Kennedy of Bridgeport is the CT Lottery’s newest millionaire — times two! Kennedy arrived at Lottery headquarters in Rocky Hill this morning and claimed the $2,000,000 “Powerball” prize for the Saturday, June 14 drawing.
The winning Powerball numbers on June 14, 2014 were 9-33-42-45-54, the Powerball number was 30. Kennedy’s “Quick Pick” ticket matched all five of the winning numbers, but missed the Powerball number. In total, 7,356 winning Powerball tickets were sold statewide for that date, with prizes ranging from $4 to $2,000,000.
Because Kennedy added the “Power Play” feature to his ticket for an extra $1, his “Match 5” prize was automatically doubled from $1,000,000 to $2,000,000. Kennedy received a prize check from Lottery officials for $1,366,001 (value after taxes).
Kennedy’s winning ticket was purchased at Sam’s Plus, LLC, located at 92 Post Road in Fairfield. A retailer since 2008, Sam’s Plus will receive a $2,500 bonus check from the CT Lottery for selling the ticket.
“Winning is good!” said Hytham “Sam” Gadallah, owner of Sam’s Plus. “We’re very excited about selling a $2,000,000 winning ticket, and very happy for our customer—especially when it’s one of our regular customers.”
Since the new Powerball game began on January 15, 2012, the CT Lottery has sold 19 prize winning tickets, each worth $1,000,000, plus another 6 tickets that were “Power Played” for the game’s $2,000,000 prize.
