Jeffrey and Heather Baker Triple their Powerball Prize with Power Play on Feb. 19
February 20, 2014 --
A last minute stop to pick up some road salt yesterday evening paved the way for Jeffrey Baker’s purchase of five Powerball tickets for last night’s $425.3 million jackpot drawing. “My wife, Heather, and I are expecting our first child, and I didn’t want to risk her falling on our icy driveway,” the Manchester resident said. “It turns out the store was out of salt, but since I was already there, I decided to buy some Powerball
Later that evening, the Bakers watched the Powerball drawing live on TV for the February 19 drawing. The winning numbers were 1-17-35-49-54. One of Baker’s “Quick Pick” tickets matched four of the five numbers drawn, plus the Powerball number, 34. The Power Play® multiplier was 3. Because Baker Power Played his ticket, his $10,000 prize was automatically tripled to $30,000.
“I paused the TV with the winning numbers frozen on the screen; we had four numbers, the Powerball number, plus I had Power Play. I knew we won, but it didn’t seem real until we waited a bit and checked the winning numbers on the CT Lottery’s website,” Baker said.
This morning the happy couple, still bubbling over with excitement, arrived at lottery headquarters in Rocky Hill to claim their $30,000 prize. “This money is a blessing in disguise,” Baker told lottery officials. “It’s going to be able to give us some breathing room with the new baby coming.”
Baker purchased his prize winning Powerball ticket at Manchester Irving located at 318 Adams Street in Manchester.
While the Powerball jackpot winning ticket was not sold in Connecticut for last night’s drawing, a total of 41,459 winning tickets were sold statewide with prizes ranging from $4 to $30,000. The Powerball jackpot run also made Connecticut’s citizens a winner because the profits from the sale of Lottery tickets are delivered to the General Fund and support good causes throughout Connecticut.
For the time period of December 26, 2013 through February 19, 2014, the CT Lottery generated $14,310,830 in Powerball sales, which delivered over $5.7 million to the state’s General Fund.
