August 10, 2012 -- While lottery players throughout the state are purchasing their tickets for a chance to win Saturday’s estimated $253 million Powerball jackpot with an estimated cash value of $170.5 million, one lucky ticket holder—Grattan Alleyne of Bloomfield—is already a $1,000,000 prize winner as a result of matching 5 numbers from the August 8 Powerball drawing.

The winning numbers on that date were 3 - 7 - 11 - 15 - 28.  Alleyne matched the first five numbers drawn, but missed the Powerball number, 12.  Statewide, a total of 22,080 winning tickets were sold on August 8 with prizes ranging from $4 to $1,000,000.

“We’ve been playing these numbers for the past 20 years,” said Alleyne’s wife Betty.  “Each number played relates to my mother who passed away.  I’ve been playing ‘Advance Action’ so that I never miss a drawing…they finally came in!”

Today, the Alleynes arrived at CT Lottery headquarters to claim a prize check for $683,000 (value after taxes).  “We’ll pay some bills, help out our kids and grand kids, and put the rest of the money away for the future.”  The couple, happily married for 46 years, also have plans to take a much anticipated vacation.  “I’ve always wanted to go to Hawaii, and now we can,” Betty said.

For selling Alleyne his $1,000,000 prize winning Powerball ticket, Stop & Go Liquor Store, located at 721 Park Avenue in Bloomfield will receive a $2,000 bonus check from the CT Lottery.
