HOW TO CLAIM YOUR PRIZE
  • Single prizes up to $599 per ticket:  Can be redeemed at any CT Lottery Retailer location.

  • Prizes up to $5,000 per ticket:  Can be redeemed at any High-Tier Claim Center or Lottery Headquarters. Please bring 2 forms of signed ID, one of which must be a photo ID. (Acceptable forms of identification include: Driver’s license, social security card, major credit card with signature, State ID, Pistol Permit, or work ID with photo and signature.)

  • Prizes greater than $5,000 per ticket: Must be redeemed at our Rocky Hill Headquarters.  Please bring 2 forms of signed ID, one of which must be a photo ID. (Acceptable forms of identification include: Driver’s license, social security card, major credit card with signature, State ID, Pistol Permit, or work ID with photo and signature.)

  • Prizes of $50,000 or more:  Must be claimed in person at Lottery headquarters.
  • CT Lottery Winner Checks Processing/Cashing (as of 5/6/18)

    The CT Lottery in conjunction with Bank of America, has changed the way CT Lottery winner checks are processed for cashing to conform to new banking requirements. (Please note that this policy does not apply to other financial institutions where you may have an account.)

    Winner checks issued Monday - Friday: Require a one (1) hour processing time between the time the CT Lottery issues you your winning check and the ability for you to cash the check at any Bank of America location.

    Winner checks issued Saturday - Sunday: Will be available for cashing at any Bank of America location on the following Monday.       

  • Damaged scratch tickets:  Must be mailed to or dropped off at CT Lottery Headquarters. Processing of damaged tickets takes 4-6 weeks.

  • Instructions to redeem your prize by mail:  Prizes less than $50,000 can be redeemed by mail. Complete the information requested on the back of the ticket. Be sure to COPY BOTH THE FRONT AND THE BACK SIDES OF YOUR TICKET for your records. Send the original ticket, along with a copy of 2 forms of signed ID, to CT Lottery Headquarters. Please note that prizes claimed by mail are processed in the order in which they are received.

  • Special situations:  In special situations (i.e. two or more people splitting a ticket, gifts to minors, torn or damaged tickets) can only be processed at CT Lottery Headquarters. Call the Claims Department at 860-713-2680 for details.

DRAW TICKET EXPIRATION
  • Draw Game prizes expire and must be claimed within 180 calendar days from the date of the drawing.
SCRATCH TICKET EXPIRATION
  • Scratch Game prizes expire and must be claimed within 180 calendar days from the announced "End of Game" date. A Scratch Game ticket's expiration date is listed on each active game page under “Last Day To Redeem.”  All prizes must be claimed by that date.  To locate a ticket’s expiration date, please click here

    Please note:  Once a winning Scratch Game ticket expires it is no longer valid for claim, and will no longer appear among the games listed on this website.
tax INFORMATION
The CT Lottery is required by law to report and withhold Federal income tax (24%) on all gambling winnings valued at more than $5,000. (Under certain circumstances this tax rate may be 30%.) In addition, the CT Lottery is required to report to the IRS gambling winnings of $600 or more AND at least 300 times the amount of the wager.

The CT Lottery is required by law to withhold Connecticut state income tax (6.99%) on all gambling winnings that are either: 1) subject to federal withholding tax (i.e. proceeds more than $5,000); or 2) reportable for federal tax purposes (i.e. $600 or more and at least 300 times the amount of the wager.) Connecticut state income tax is required on all Connecticut lottery winnings regardless of state residency.

Senior Citizens are not exempt from having taxes withheld. The CT Lottery is obliged to report the winnings to the IRS and the CT Department of Revenue Services if winnings exceed the above threshold. You may wish to consult with a tax adviser regarding tax obligations.

LOST or DUPLICATE W2G FORMS:  If a claimant is to receive a W2G form, it is given at the time the ticket is processed at the CT Lottery Headquarters or at the Lottery High-Tier Claim Center. Duplicate W2G forms can be picked up in person at Lottery Headquarters with photo ID. Requests for a duplicate W2G form can also be made in writing and must be accompanied by 2 forms of signed ID, one of which must be a photo ID.

Tax deductions on non-winning lottery tickets: 
Gambling winnings are fully taxable and must be reported on your tax return.  Information regarding gambling income and losses can be found on the Internal Revenue Service web site at http://www.irs.gov.  For further information, please consult with your tax adviser.
