Rosa DiLernia Matches Five Winning Numbers and Wins $25,000 Lucky for Life Prize
Plantsville Resident is CT’s First $25,000 Prize Winner in New “Lucky for Life” Regional Game
March 22, 2012 -- Rosa DiLernia of Plantsville is CT’s first lucky winner to claim the new “Lucky for Life” regional game’s second highest prize of $25,000. The top prize in New England’s Lucky for Life game is worth up to $1,000 a day, every day, for life.
On March 19, DiLernia, who chose her own numbers, missed matching the Lucky Ball number, which was 10, but still matched the other five winning numbers drawn, 6-18-19-29-30 and won $25,000. Across New England, 132,038 winning Lucky for Life tickets were purchased on that date; 34,000 were sold in CT alone with prizes ranging from $2 to $25,000.
After scanning her ticket in a ticket checker, DiLernia received the message to hand her ticket to the lottery clerk for verification. “When she told me I won $25,000, I was completely shocked,” DiLernia told Lottery officials. “It was a nice surprise.”
DiLernia, a Sikorsky Aircraft employee, recently came to Lottery headquarters in Rocky Hill with her husband, Alberto, to accept a prize check for $17,075 (value after taxes). “We’ll take some of the prize money and put it into the house and pay off the car—and definitely take a vacation,” DiLernia said.
DiLernia’s winning ticket was purchased at Quick Stop Mart located at 855 South Main Street in Plantsville.
