Fabian Mazuera of Ridgefield Wins $9.7 Million Classic Lotto Jackpot on Oct. 18
October 20, 2011 -- Late last winter, Fabian Mazuera of Ridgefield picked six numbers and began playing them regularly in the CT Lottery’s
Classic Lotto draw game. As Mazuera watched the Lotto jackpot climb week after week—eventually to $9,700,000—he remained hopeful that he might be a winner. “Nine days ago I started a new job,” said Mazuera, a gourmet chef, “but, it’s been really tough making ends meet.”
Shortly after the Tuesday night October 18, 2011 Classic Lotto drawing was held, Mazuera logged on to the CT Lottery website to check the winning numbers. “I saw my first two numbers were a match, and then I saw the rest of my numbers…and nearly fell out of my chair! I was stunned,” Mazuera told Lottery officials.
The six numbers on Mazuera’s ticket were a perfect match with the Classic Lotto numbers drawn on that date, which were 6 - 10 - 27 - 29 - 32 - 38. While Mazuera’s winning jackpot ticket was the only one sold in that draw, there were 10,135 additional winning tickets sold with prizes from $2 up to $2,369 each.
Classic Lotto’s jackpot prize is payable as a 21-year annuity or as a one-time cash lump-sum. Mazuera arrived at Lottery headquarters in Rocky Hill today with his family and selected the jackpot’s one-time cash lump-sum value of $6,523,790 (before taxes). The net prize was $4,455,749. “I just want to enjoy life. I’m going to retire, and help out my mother and my family. But first,” Mazuera quipped, “we’re going to Disney World.”
For selling Mazuera his jackpot winning ticket, Ridgefield Amoco, located at 115 Danbury Road in Ridgefield, will receive a $10,000 bonus from the CT Lottery.
