Rick Leinhardt Wins $10,000 Playing “Red Hot 5s Doubler”
Cos Cob Man Will “Put A Ring On It” with $10,000 Lottery Prize
September 01, 2011 -- Sweethearts John “Rick” Leinhardt and Joan Brown of Cos Cob are practically inseparable. Dating for two years, the couple enjoys many activities together, including playing CT Lottery instant games.
Monday, Joan stopped to purchase a sandwich and some instant tickets at Cardello’s Deli Plus on Valley Road in Cos Cob. Later, sitting at the kitchen table, the duo commenced playing their tickets and checking their progress. After scratching a “Red Hot 5s Doubler” ticket, Rick gave it to Joan to determine the prize amount. “There was a $1,000 prize in all ten prize areas…I was speechless,” Joan said. “We won $10,000 on a $5 scratch ticket. It was unbelievable.”
Rick, who works in the family business, Trade Upholstery, accepted his prize check for $6,831 (value after taxes) with Joan by his side. “I was going to buy Joan an engagement ring this Christmas, but thanks to this, I’ll be able to buy it for her now…maybe an even bigger one,” said Rick.
For selling Lienhardt his $10,000 prize winning Red Hot 5s Doubler ticket, Cardello’s Deli Plus will receive a $100 bonus from the CT Lottery.
