Anthony Taylor Wins $10,000 Playing “Red Hot 5s Doubler”
New Milford Yankees Fan Strikes It Hot, Wins $10,000 Prize
August 12, 2011 -- Sporting a crisp New York Yankees ball cap and a winning smile, Anthony Taylor of New Milford, was in great spirits when he arrived at CT Lottery headquarters in Rocky Hill to claim a $10,000 prize he won playing “
Red Hot 5’s Doubler.” “Last night the Yankees won and today I’m claiming $10,000…it feels good to win!” said Taylor.
Taylor scored a “home run” when he scratched the front of his $5 ticket and revealed a “Multiplier” symbol in each play area. “At first, I thought I might have won $1,000. Then the retailer scanned the ticket and told me I had won $10,000. I couldn’t believe it,” Taylor shared with Lottery officials.
Sales began for the CT Lottery Red Hot 5s Doubler on May 23, introducing players to a unique new game feature—a two-sided ticket. There are 10 chances to win on the front of the ticket, and 5 more chances to win on the back. The top prize is $50,000.
Taylor, who retired after 25 years of state service, accepted his prize check from Lottery officials for $6,831 (value after taxes) with plans already in place to take a golf trip to South Carolina.
For selling Taylor his $10,000 prize winning Red Hot 5s Doubler ticket, Hit & Run Variety located at 52 Kent Road in New Milford will receive $100 bonus from the CT Lottery.
