Joe Prosser Joins Other Lucky Residents Who Have Won Top Prizes from the CT Lottery
June 29, 2011 --
Torrington has long been known as a successful mill town, and for a number of its residents, the city of Torrington is lucky at lottery, too!
Joe Prosser, one of Torrington’s newest top prize lottery winners, recently made a quick stop to buy a cup of coffee and a “$100,000 Cashword 3” instant ticket. After scratching all 18 letters in the game puzzle, Prosser spelled a win worth the game’s $100,000 top prize. “I knew with six words I had won something, but I didn’t know what the prize was,” Prosser told Lottery officials with a laugh. Prosser’s winning ticket was purchased at Cumberland Farms at 207 South Main Street, Torrington. Of the eight top prizes in the game $100,000 Cashword 3, two more remain to be claimed.
The Cash5 draw game’s $100,000 top prize has been won an incredible eight times by a resident of Torrington. An additional 26 people have won more than $700,000 in top prizes playing CT Lottery’s instant games, including Torrington retiree, Will Mastrogiovanni, who discovered he was a $50,000 "Treasure" instant game top prize winner while attempting to buy a cup of coffee on March 25, 2011.
A remarkable number of nine “Lotto” jackpots have been won by Torrington residents, totaling $34 million since the CT Lottery game started in 1983. Lucky resident Jim Seitz beat the game’s odds of 7.1 million to 1 when his “Quick Pick” ticket was a perfect match with the winning numbers drawn on March 18, 2008 and won the incredible $5.5 million Classic Lotto jackpot.
Matthew Budge, then 24, was looking forward to the future and the plans he’d mapped out for his family, when luck, an empty gas tank, and a $3 “Win for Life” instant ticket forever changed his course on April 4, 2005. Budge became Torrington’s first resident to win $5,000 a month for life in the game’s 11th Edition. Heidi Alves joined Budge when she won the Win for Life 16th edition top prize on December 14, 2009. “You never expect something like this to happen,” Alves said.
Kenneth Blount, III put Torrington on the “winners list” again when he became the very first top prize winner in the Lucky-4-Life draw game on June 8, 2009. “Nobody believed me when first" said Blount after winning $2,000 a week—every week—for the rest of his life.
Who will be Torrington’s next lucky CT Lottery top prize winner? You never know…it just might be you!
