Barbara Morytko (shown with daughter, Erin, right) Wins $10,000 Prize Playing "Lucky-4-Life"
June 16, 2011 --
When Barbara Morytko of Bristol, a 15-year cancer survivor, first learned about the CT Lottery’s “Lucky-4-Life
” draw game, she said to herself, “I feel lucky for life that I’m still here,” and began playing the game. With her daughter, Erin, Barbara, a retired first grade teacher, purchased their favorite Lucky-4-Life numbers.
The morning after the June 2, 2011 Lucky-4-Life drawing, Barbara scanned their tickets for that date in a lottery Ticket Checker—and was taken aback when a ticket bought by Erin came up as a $10,000 winner. “Everybody was screaming in the store. Then I called my husband…he was screaming, too,” Barbara told Lottery officials. When Barbara told Erin of her win, it was time for another surprise…Erin decided to give her mother the $10,000 prize winning ticket. “My mother deserves the moon,” Erin said. “No one is sweeter than she is.”
The winning Lucky-4-Life numbers drawn on June 2 were 6 - 11 - 13 and 27. Morytko’s ticket matched those four numbers, but did not match the Lucky Ball number, which was 1.
Barbara and Erin arrived at Lottery Headquarters in Rocky Hill recently to claim a check for $6,854 (prize value after taxes). Barbara said that while winning Lucky-4-Life felt like a miracle, she still felt blessed in many ways; especially with the gift of a having a loving family.
Morytko’s winning Lucky-4-Life ticket was sold at Gala News, 533 Farmington Avenue in Bristol. For selling the winning ticket, Gala News will receive a $100 bonus check from the CT Lottery.
Since the Lucky-4-Life game began on March 29, 2009, fourteen other Bristol residents have won or shared a $10,000 prize playing Lucky-4-Life, including Rafael Alamo, Michael Boutin, Heidie Budny, Matthew Daigle, James Demaria, Miguel Gonzalez, Louise Ignacak, Diane Joy, Linda Labieniec, David Mancini, Thomas Piotrowski, Donald Rodgriguez, Judith Tessman and Peter Zawilinski.
