Kelly Moody Wins $10,000 Powerball Prize from May 18 Drawing
Danbury Husband Gives Wife a “Cool” $10,000 Lottery Prize
June 21, 2011 --
When Rich Moody of Danbury walked into his house recently and handed his wife, Kelly, a piece of paper and said, “Here’s your air conditioning,” Kelly was more than a little confused. Kelly soon realized that Rich had given her a CT Lottery Powerball
validation ticket for the May 18, 2011 drawing—and the prize was worth a cool $10,000. “Even after counting all the zeros, I was still in disbelief,” Kelly told Lottery officials with a laugh.
Rich’s winning Powerball “Quick Pick” ticket successfully matched four of the first five numbers drawn in the May 18th Powerball game, which were 7 - 12 - 13 - 42 - 49; he also matched the Powerball number of 16. Nationwide, 787,898 winning tickets were purchased on that date; 13,404 of those tickets were sold here in Connecticut.
It wasn’t until Rich logged onto the Lottery’s website to locate the CT Lottery’s hours of operation that Kelly finally believed her husband wasn’t trying to play a joke on her. With the rising summer temperatures, Kelly couldn’t be more thrilled with her family’s unexpected windfall. “Our air conditioning recently died. Thanks to this, they’re coming out today to give us quotes to buy a new one,” Kelly said.
Recently, the Moody’s, who have been married for 27-years, arrived at CT Lottery headquarters in Rocky Hill where Kelly accepted a check for $6,850 (prize value after taxes). “He’s never given me a gift like this before,” Kelly quipped.
Moody’s winning Powerball ticket was purchased at Mill Plain Exxon located on Mill Plain Road in Danbury.
